As the list of MPs resigning over their outrageous expenses claims seems to be growing longer every day, I am left wondering how we choose the next people. We are the people that put them into power, it is our judgement, yet how do we know, they are beyond corruption.
I assume the new members are honest people when they enter parliament and they are led by their peers down the path of fiddling the expenses and onto the road of corruption.
Many people have said to me it is the nature of politics, lie well, keep your people happy and our own nests well feathered, I feel those days are over. Maybe it is time that the parliamentary oath that members take is changed to include that they are honest about their financial dealings, then we may see a new era of truth and transparency and a brighter future ahead.
