Susie’s Got Her Rant Head On!!!!

Frustration at the articles I have read over the last two days has meant my friends you’re in for a double whammy!!!

1. Tax on the phone lines

How dare they, we are taxed to the max, fuel tax, meaning we have the highest fuel in Europe, VAT still higher than most countries that use a sales tax, council and water taxes that mean a lot of families never get a holiday away. This government are now really pulling our chains. Was it not Tony Blair, who about 4 years ago stated he wanted every child to have Internet access, yes let them have it, so the government purse can rattle again.

Old aged pensioner some of whom rely totally on the phone for there contact with family and friends, yes Gorden tax them some more, the disabled who do not leave their homes, the Internet is their portal to the world.

I know they are saying it will be a very small tax most of us won’t notice, just like we did not notice the MP’s expense accounts and lets face it from little acorns grow large oak trees, so small tax now check it again in 5 years. I am totally sick of the fat cat state we live in.

Feeling slightly better I will move to my next subject.

2. Child Labour.

This article I read in the Observer on Sunday, I thought this was going to tell me about some third world country, but no this lady was talking about children in England, there are elements of what she said I did agree with, most of what she said I felt is why this country is in the state it is in.

She went on to say that we in England have a growing nation of child carers who often miss school, never play out, and do not have friends because they are looking after sick and disabled parents, they are having their childhoods ripped from them.

I believe a good solid loving childhood to be the most precious gift a parent can give a child, but a childhood with no responsibilities, no realism and no values, delivers us with a nation of spoilt brats that expect everything handed to them.

I for one had to help look after my father, when I was 9 years old being the eldest I was told he was dying, Mum needed all my help as she herself was not strong, I already had an early morning job feeding pigs on the farm, I now had to do the shopping, learn to do the banking and make sure my siblings were looked after.

It taught me to love every minute of my time with the people I love, it taught me values, to care and to share, it made me who I am, I hate selfish people, a kind word costs you nothing and I consider myself to have had an amazing childhood which did end earlier than most.

In the article it stated that often these families will not allow social services to be involved, again that I understand, my daughter has to be very involved with social services because of our beautiful quadriplegic granddaughter, but they invade your home, team after team, this is not the way-forward, there should be one family co-ordinatior that sits and listens to the family needs, we had to find out for ourselves about direct payments, this meant we had the right to manage Paige’s care package, this put us back in control. People need to be given the knowledge of what will help them as a family, help keep them together, things that add to the quality of there everyday life and makes the life of the parent and the child much better. If these parents could run their own care packages then the child could go of to school knowing Mum or dad had the help they need, often if you ask these children they do the things they do because they want too, not because they have too.

Imogen who is Paige’s younger sister, but big sis in many ways, her chores are that of looking after her Rabbit, but if Paige needs help, Imogen helps naturally as family members do, not because Paige is disabled but because they are all a family unit,  Imogen has never had to be involved in any of Paige’s real care but we know that if Paige ever needs her sister she would be there for her, just as it should be.

This nanny state we live in is crippling our future, we need to protect our young ones, but we also need to let them mature into responsible young people who know there are no free rides in life.

  1. Susie – I so agree with you about the tax on phone lines. The Child Labour article was the best I have read and was also very moving.
