Two Castles & A Cottage

So excited! I am planning out September tip to Scotland, Wester Ross to be accurate, I have just received our confirmations back, so I now feel I can start planning the fine detail. With going through the awful lockdowns and missing our trips to Italy and various other treats we had planned over last year we had decided we would treat ourselves to a special start and finish to our short trip.

Crossbank Castle near Glasgow is the perfect position for our overnight stop as we live in Wiltshire, Salisbury to be exact and it is a long journey up to Scotland. One of the reasons we picked this hotel is the fact the restaurant is overseen by Michel Roux Jnr who is a two star Michelin chef and runs the famous Le Gavroche restaurant in London, along with the fact this is a 5 star hotel and part of the ICMI’s collection of 5 star hotels. The hotel has history, romantic, only 9 bedrooms and staff who make you feel very special, for us the biggest pull was the restaurant we have booked to have the tasting menu and matching wine flight, I cannot think of a better way to start our adventure.

Next morning we still have a long but beautiful journey as we head up to the highlands, we are meeting up with my brother in Fort William and we will then continue the four of us to Loch Carron to the beautiful little cottage we have booked which has the most wonderful views of the loch and the surrounding mountains, we stayed in this cottage last year so we know what we are going to, it is very traditional crofters cottage, warm and cosy. I really enjoyed the log burner last year on the evenings after a day walking or adventuring around the area.

We plan to do a few walks and to cover areas further up towards Ullapool which we did not get to see last year, I can only describe the area as breathtakingly beautiful, Lochs, forests, grand mountains reaching up beyond the skyline, white beaches and dreamy coastline sometimes very rugged, the people are warm and friendly wanting to tell you all about there amazing area, we are deeply in love with Scotland

On our return heading back to the South of England we will spend our final night in another castle, we stayed in this one last year and cannot wait to go back, it is Dalhousie Castle, near Edinburgh. we loved this place, it is different to our first stop in the fact it is a much more relaxed event yet still very special, it also has a lovely restaurant . The Dungeon Restaurant is down stairs in exactly where it says it is yet in one of the most romantic restaurant settings I have been to. The staff again make this place very special. we felt so at home here, the food was also excellent. I will of course when we are up their be keeping my blog up to date so you can all be inspired to visit if you have not tried Scotland as a destination. The weather is something that you cannot guarantee up in Scotland you must go prepaid for four seasons in one day! also treat yourselves to good water proof footwear and clothing and hope you don’t need it. Fingers crossed our beautiful countries will then have the virus under control !!
